Is it just me or is everything getting harder? Is it the nice weather outside. It is harder than ever for me to concentrate on anything for longer than an hour! I am starting to go crazy.

I spend like 15 minutes looking for a picture to go with this post and then I got frustrated and gave up. And now I am getting frustrated with this post. I am going to go do something else and get frustrated with that!

    OMG!

    OMG!

Craziest week ever!  It all started on Saturday….

I got my hair done on Saturday morning, Alison at Chop Tops is a wizard with the dye and sheers!  I love the new look, short and sweet!  We considered coloring the blond part something fun, like green or purple.  But I liked it so much that I kept it auburn with blond.

Saturday night, Ryan and I went to go see Cake at Crossroads KC.  They were an amazing band and one of my personal favorites.  They played some of my favorite songs, actually it was hard to say what my favorites were, because I loved them all!  The venue was really great too, and the crowd was really into it, the band did a lot of call and response and crowd participation.

Tuesday, I drove to Council Bluffs Iowa to see Jason Mraz at the Westfair Ampetheatre.  I got there around 3:45 for a 7:30 concert and already there were about 20 people in line (most of them being under 18).  I got to know the middle school girls in front of me in line, very nice but not quite prepared (shorts and tank tops in 60 degress!).  Lori and Tom barely made it to the show, they pulled into the parking lot right around 6:30 when the doors opened.  We made it right up front (second row, just to stage left).

The first artist to go on was Anya Marina, who was great.  She was performing without her band she she brought them in her iPod and performed from that, which she actually did very well, she must have some practice with that.  Next was the Plain White T’s.  I saw them perform at the Freeman Spring Concert 2 yeras ago, and I wasn’t a big fan of them then, and not much has changed.  I don’t know what it is about them, but I just can’t get into their music.

Jason Mraz went on last, with Tocca Rivera (YAA!) and did an amazing show.  Some really great crowd participationg, but it was a little difficult to do some of the dance moves when we were all sqashed up against the bars.  I wish I had brought my camera into the show, but I was scared that they would make me put it in the car and I would miss out on an awesome spot in the front row.  But we stood next to an ME student from ISU who was taking pictures and I really want to find him and get copies of his photos.

I drove home that night and got home around 2:30am and woke up at 6am to listen to the morning show of a local radio station.  It paid off because I won tickets to meet Jason Mraz before his performance at the Starlight Theater in KC.  Lori got to KC around 4pm and we met at the Starlight Theater and grabbed some dinner.  I was totally nervous when they took us backstage, along with two other radio stations.  We were one of the last people to get to see him, Lori and I got to shake his hand and tell him that we saw the show last night.  He told us that he would try to mix it up that night and asked if there was anything we really wanted to hear.  Lori wanted “I’ll Do Anything” and I asked for “Right Kind of Phrase”.  We got a picture with him, and then I asked him to sign my hat (even though that was against the rules).

After meeting him we got seats in the theater, definitely not as close as the night before, but still amazing with a great crowd.  Everyone except the Plain White T’s did a good job of mixing up their sets so it was really like going to two different concerts.  I got a picture with Anya Marina and rocked out to some Jason Mraz!

I left the concert just feeling the love of the universe and wanting to hug everyone I saw.  I will always remember those two nights going to Jason Mraz concerts.  I cannot wait until my next chance to see him live, and I hope that even more people get to have their lives changed by his music.  So in a spirit I think that Jason Mraz would appreicate, I want to give you a big virtual hug and thank you for reading my blog.  Go spread some positive energy!

    Jason Mraz

    Jason Mraz

Well the next week is going to be amazing and life changing.  It all starts tonight with some First Friday fun in the Crossroads then moves to Screenland for Wolverine (my own little pre-birthday treat to myself).  But then comes the real celebrations.

Saturday, Cake is performing at Grinders in Crossroads and I will be there front and center.  I have loved Cake since their first album and I remember their songs so clearly they transport me back to places/people in high school.  I can’t wait to see them live.  I have heard they put on a great show.

Then, my life is going to change!  I get to see Jason Mraz perform twice in 24 hours!  Tuesday afternoon I am driving to Council Bluffs to see him play the it is back on Wendesday for a half day of work before I head to the Starlight Theater in KC to see him again.  My good friend Lori is coming with me on this amazing journey.  Just thinking about it I start to get light headed and feel like hugging anything that moves.  Just be prepared for an extra energetic, exuberant and loving Kate next week cause I will be running on a Mraz high!
